<br />
He LOVES mealtime. He knows that when we come home from Kathy’s, it's time to have dinner and we better not try to do anything else first. 8 out of 10 times, he still cries when the food is all gone, but here recently he's started to get a little better. He’s just so sad that it’s all over and he even starts to whimper when he notices there’s only a few bites left. Poor kid – you’d think he wasn’t being fed enough, but trust me – this kid can eat and he eats a lot! (Hmmm….I seem to have a similar issue and the common denominator is fabulous food made by Cody….so maybe this is really Cody’s fault that Daniel and I love to eat) Our pediatrician keeps telling us that babies know when they’re full and they stop when they get to that point, but if we let Daniel do that, he seriously will throw up. We’ve tried it. So his off switch seems to be malfunctioning, but if we can get him distracted enough when the food is gone, he doesn’t cry too long. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XwyqviKIle8/UHtlUIBCbKI/AAAAAAAAAaU/msY7JoBbQpU/s1600/IMG_2003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XwyqviKIle8/UHtlUIBCbKI/AAAAAAAAAaU/msY7JoBbQpU/s400/IMG_2003.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PE92IrKMQzw/UHtlbVlnUxI/AAAAAAAAAac/B7NccEZlW3U/s1600/IMG_1360.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PE92IrKMQzw/UHtlbVlnUxI/AAAAAAAAAac/B7NccEZlW3U/s400/IMG_1360.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Usually likes bath time, and playing with the bubbles. Trying to drink the bath water is also a new (and disgusting) trick. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cO7ZLafxS_8/UHtmHRTmgOI/AAAAAAAAAak/SjtQBvqHleU/s1600/IMG_1289.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cO7ZLafxS_8/UHtmHRTmgOI/AAAAAAAAAak/SjtQBvqHleU/s400/IMG_1289.jpg" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We’re still working on getting rid of the binky. We’re down to only using it during naptime and at night. In the morning when we pick him up out of his crib, we ask “Where does the binky go?” and he’ll pull it right out of his mouth and drop it into the crib. Except for the mornings when he’s feeling ornery and he’ll pretend like he’s putting it in the crib but actually sneaks it back into his mouth. It makes me sad thinking about getting rid of it altogether b/c he knows there’s a binky in his crib waiting for him, and he’s usually so excited to get into his crib to get it. I just worry he’s going to sit and cry and just look and look for the missing binky and be so sad. <br />
<br />
Still a great sleeper. He takes 2 hour long naps a day and then sleeps from about 7:30p to 6:30a. Sometimes he so zonked out that he doesn't realize he's sleeping with his legs in the air (picture taken of our video monitor screen):<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
He’s toddling all over the place now. He was officially up and going right around 15 months. He’d taken a few steps before that quite a few times but it wasn’t consistent walking. We love taking walks down to the elementary school and playing on their playground. We also love to play on our swing set in the back yard. Wherever we’re playing, he continually insists on climbing up the slide and doesn’t have a whole lot of interest in going down it. <br />

<br />
Daniel has learned the word “No” Sigh. He definitely knows what it means and uses it in the right context. But then sometimes he’ll just walk around singing “no, no, no, no…..” like it’s a pretty song. <br />
<br />
His vocabulary is growing, and depending on his mood he’ll try to repeat just about anything you ask him to say. But ma-ma, da-da, boo, ball, boom, no, up, down, and yum-yum come through pretty clear. Cracker, milk, ….. he also says pretty routinely, but it’s a pretty vague resemblance of the actual word. It’s amazing how much he understands of what we say, though, and Cody and I have officially started spelling things to each other.<br />
<br />
He is starting to pretend like he’s doing things. He likes to pick up our phones and hold them up to his ear and he'll blab, blab, blab like he's just got a lot to tell the person on the other end. He’s also started walking around with a little container and spoon and he’ll pretend like he’s got food in there and he scoops the “food” into his mouth as he walks around. <br />
<br />
Daniel gets a big kick out of the sign of peace at church. He loves to shake everyone’s hand around us, and he keeps trying to shake their hands well after we’ve moved on to the breaking of the bread. He’s just so friendly, I guess! <br />

<br />
Daniel's going to be a big brother!!! YAY!!! We are so happy to announce that Lew #2 is on the way! Due date is March 9, 2013.<br />
<br />
I just started the second trimester (week 14) and am happy to report that I think I'm finally out of the woods on the crazy, tired, exhausted stage. Man, it was tough to go through the tired part with a toddler running around! A little different than last time, but we made it! Daniel goes to bed around 7:30 or so, so I found myself heading to bed a lot of times right after I'd put him to bed. <br />
<br />
So, backing up.....found out I was pregnant on Wednesday, July 11. I was sitting at work that morning reviewing a journal entry (ahhh, the life of an accountant, sounds so exciting, right?) when all of a sudden a wave of nausea hit me. It was around 10 a.m. In that moment, a hundred thoughts went through my head the first being "omg, I know this feeling." Hard to explain - but it's just different than nausea from the flu or something. A few other things started adding up...one of them being that I had missed my June period, but I had previously dismissed it because Cody and I had started a really intense workout and clean eating program in June, so I chalked it up to that. Before I knew it, I had told my boss I was taking an early lunch and I was at CVS taking the pregnancy test in the bathroom. <br />
<br />
I actually don't really even think I needed to take the test. Even though this was definitely a surprise, I was about 99% sure I was pregnant. I just knew, somehow. So as soon as I got the results, I called Cody from my car in the CVS parking lot and we were excited and shocked and trying to wrap our head around us having another baby on the way. (The second thing I did was drive straight to my favorite pizza place, Spin, secretly glad I had an excuse for having to give up the intense workout and diet challenge.) <br />
<br />
For the next few weeks after that I was a little concerned about the pregnancy because I was having virtually no pregnancy symptoms, and with Daniel the symptoms started right away. But I guess it's true what they say, that every pregnancy is different. I did have some nausea, but it wasn't as bad as last time and it was more from weeks 8-12, a little later than last time. <br />
<br />
I've been having really intense cravings for sweets, which is also different than my first pregnancy. Cody leaned over in church a few weeks back and whispered that he had a feeling we were having a girl. We'll see if he's right!! The Chinese calendar thing says girl. Would love to have a girl, but honestly would love to have another little boy just as much. I never thought I'd know what to do with a boy (sometimes still wonder what kinds of boy games to play) but since Daniel will 22 months old, it would be fun for him to have a brother so close in age. Either way, we'll be so excited. <br />
<br />
I have an appointment tomorrow, and then my next monthly visit after that will be when we get to find out the sex. And yes, we'll definitely be finding out!!<br />
<br />
Until next time (hopefully not another 4-5 months...) I didn't really have an occasion - Daniel was 10 1/2 months, so not a big milestone bday or anything. However, it was a few weeks before Easter, so we did some Easter pics as well as some others. <br />
<br />
<ul><li>Pick Daniel up from Kathy's at 5:00</li>
<li>Chat with Kathy about his day, and then home by 5:15.</li>
<li>Play for a bit and try to get D to practice crawling</li>
<ul><li>Still not interested :)</li>
</ul><li>Around 5:45, eat dinner. </li>
<li>6:00ish take a bath, play a little</li>
<li>6:15 or 6:30 bedtime</li>
<ul><li>For the past almost 2 weeks now, he's been so tired by 6p.m. and he sleeps all the way through til 6a.m. even going to bed this early. Everything I've read says babies his age need 11-13 hours of sleep a night, plus naps during the day, but it limits our time together even more :( Makes me REALLY look forward to the weekends.</li>
</ul></ul><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">Getting ready for dinner!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7lTZqA88EAI/T07d4Lqf-QI/AAAAAAAAAVo/ZvG8TcEvx7w/s1600/IMG_1065.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7lTZqA88EAI/T07d4Lqf-QI/AAAAAAAAAVo/ZvG8TcEvx7w/s400/IMG_1065.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><div><br />

That evening, we came home and put some Cheerios on Daniel's high chair tray and he chased those things around that tray for a long time! It was really nice for him to be distracted from us preparing his dinner. Otherwise, he sees us heating up his food and he gets all in a tizzy that it isn't in front of him yet. So the fact that not too many of the Cheerios made it in his mouth this first try didn't bother us!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

Both of them were so good, so it was a super easy night. Here are the best buds:<br />

LOVE that laugh!! (Side note, my husband has mad horse-noise-making skills) <br />

More often than not, he wakes up anywhere from 1-3 times a night (usually towards the end of his night, it tends to start around 4 a.m. or so) needing his pacifier so Cody and I take turns pretending we don't hear him to see if the other one will get up first, er, I mean, we enthusiastically jump out of bed to help our child. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-Speaking of sleep, he's always fought it fairly hard, but this past week or two has been almost a struggle at times to get him to give in to sleep. He'll arch his back super hard and thrash himself around in your arms, then he'll relax for 15 seconds, then just as he seems to be drifting off, he starts himself awake and we repeat the thrashing/fussing/arching business. <br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"></div><div class="MsoNormal">-Along those lines, diaper changes are becoming more of a challenge, he just doesn't want to lay still. There are so many interesting things he wants to roll towards, that laying on his back for a 30 second diaper change is just too boring. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-Got first tooth on Sunday January 29th . It was a fussy couple days, but so glad our sweet boy is back to his smiley, happy self now. The tooth has most definitely broken through the skin, but it's tough to get a picture of it at this point. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-Bought shampoo for Daniel for the first time last week – he finally has enough hair to actually lather up with shampoo! Up until now we’d just been using the baby body wash:</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wo1zbQTrScs/TytZYv1h9_I/AAAAAAAAARg/NylVmeq1WQ0/s1600/IMG_0972.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wo1zbQTrScs/TytZYv1h9_I/AAAAAAAAARg/NylVmeq1WQ0/s400/IMG_0972.jpg" width="298px" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal"></div><div class="MsoNormal">-No crawling yet, really still not seeing any interest at all.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-He’s standing at his music table with a little help so he doesn’t topple over. He isn’t cruising along furniture or anything yet, but he is able to stand at this little table for longer and longer periods of time (note, we are missing our pants b/c many of his pants are getting too tight in the waist, so after daycare we let our belly hang out a little more comfortably):</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv6S2DiGkNw/TytaXt0KGOI/AAAAAAAAARo/vMLIhAZGGhk/s1600/IMG_0953.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Iv6S2DiGkNw/TytaXt0KGOI/AAAAAAAAARo/vMLIhAZGGhk/s400/IMG_0953.jpg" width="298px" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-LOVES to eat and LOVES his bottles. Gets real mad when both are all gone. But, give him his pacifier and he’s good again. (I wonder when we need to wean him off the pacifier….eeks, doesn’t sound like fun)</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-Daniel's absolute favorite thing to do right now is bounce. His jumparoo keeps him entertained much longer than anything we try to sit him on the floor to play with. </div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-Daniel's leave favorite thing is getting his face wiped - whether it's to wipe the mess off after he's done eating, wipe the snot from his nose (or elsewhere on his face....he tends to get it smeared all over...my kid is the kid with snot all over, great), wipe the crusties from his eyes, etc.</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal">-In the last few weeks, he’s started lifting his arms to be held or reaching out to us when he knows we’re coming to pick him up. LOVE THAT!</div><div class="MsoNormal"><br />
</div>-Per our PAT educator, the next thing to work on is object permanence. So far, when an object is removed from his sight, he forgets about it. We’re working on taking a toy and putting it under a blanket and helping him find it again so that he starts realizing that the object still exists. Here we are practicing, looks like he found it! <br />

The first couple times he tried to eat the bubbles and wasn't quite sure what to make of them :) Here's a sample of bath time for Daniel:<br />

<br />
If you look closely, you might be able to see the two little teeth on the bottom that are trying to poke through. We've been having some real fussy times lately and I have to think it must be those darn teeth. Poor baby. Cody and I are a little sad for him to start sprouting teeth. It just feels like he's too big when that happens. I have to take a deep breath and figure out how on earth to catch up out of the tremendous blog back log I’ve got going on. I need to tell myself I don’t have to go chronologically with posting about the past few months, although, my brain (which doesn’t seem to have anything but a left half) doesn’t like it when I go out of order. Oh dear, I feel like I’m spinning in circles figuring out where to begin. So my excuse is that work has been ruling my life. I hate that excuse. Hate. It. I am vowing not to use that excuse anymore – and if work continues to rule my life and impede on my time with my family and my time to do things I enjoy to do, then I need to reevaluate my work situation. I’m giving my job until March to prove to me that I can have the work/life balance I’ve been missing since I came back from maternity leave. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Enough about work. Work shmirk. Let’s talk about happy things, like my happy little guy. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">For goodness sakes, it’s been since Halloween since I’ve posted? Good grief. Well, a lot has happened since then and there’s no way I’m going to remember everything. One of the most major milestones was sitting up…that happened about a week before his 7 month bday, which, being a couple weeks before Christmas made it totally fun for gift opening purposes. Speaking of Christmas, we had such a wonderful holiday with our families. I was so grateful that Cody was able to take off 4 straight days in a row (seriously, this never happens) and we were able to travel as a family and have that much time off work together. We spent Fri/Sat in the ville and Sun/Mon in B-town. Daniel did an awesome job of pulling the tissue paper out of the gifts and waving it around in the air :)</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />

</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">What else….Daniel’s been babbling for quite some time now – probably at least a couple months. I think started jabbering around 6 months or so. For about the last month’s he’s been saying “da-da” all the time, it’s his favorite thing to say. Darn it that those M’s are hard to say! </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Right around Thanksgiving (so almost 6 ½ months), we introduced rice cereal. It was a no go. He wanted nothing to do with it. In fact, he’d start crying as the spoon would come towards him. We tried for a few nights in a row, only to get the same results. I wondered if my child would ever want to eat and I started visualizing my adult child drinking from a baby bottle. I started to feel really anxious about him not embracing food right away. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We gave it a little break and came back about a week later and kept trying, but we scrapped the rice cereal and gave him sweet potatoes and guess what? He sort of ate it! Each evening when we’d get set to eat (which entailed getting entirely stripped down to diaper only), it would take him a few bites to remember that he liked eating. But now, at 8 months, he’s eating like a little champ. And most times it’s not even that messy of an ordeal like it was in the beginning. Seriously – a couple times we had sweet potatoes in the back of our hair, in our ears, in our eye brows. Quite an adventure :) </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />
</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So, Cody has been super dedicated to making Daniel’s food. Thank God for Cody. Seriously, these past 2-3 months he’s been pulling more weight for our little team than I have. But anyway – on the food front – Daniel has been getting a nice variety of fruits & veggies. We’ve tried sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini, butternut squash, apples, pears, peaches, mangoes, bananas, and prunes. He is not a picky eater at all, yay Daniel! We’re to the point now that he loves eating so much that he gets upset if I don’t get the spoon reloaded and back up to his mouth quick enough. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />

</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">We are waiting for the day he decides to start crawling. He’s just pretty content the way things are now and we haven’t noticed too much interest from him in chasing after a toy that rolls away or something. His legs are getting really strong from bouncing and jumping in his exersaucer and on our laps. So I’m wondering if he isn’t just going to do everything at once. We’ll see! For the time being, I’m enjoying not chasing him all over the house. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;"><br />

</span></div><span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Daniel continues to be just the happiest little guy most days. He's just like, eh - i'm pretty content not working that hard :) I totally get it, buddy. </li>
<li>He's jabbering a lot and loves to hear his own sounds. And he giggles a lot too, love it. </li>
<li>He's definitely in tune to voices and is very content to just observe and take everything in. </li>
<li>He's grabbing at things more and more. While he doesn't grasp his rattles much, he does like to grab his pacifier is constantly pulling it out of his mouth and trying to figure out how to get it back in.</li>
<li>He's been sleeping great. 9:30 p.m. to 5:30-6a.m. Some nights he doesn't have good nights and we're up a couple times throughout the night, but for the most part he's been sleeping really well. </li>
<li>We're almost 100% on formula now. With work being super chaotic, my diet hasn't been great, I haven't been drinking enough water, I haven't been sleeping much, and I haven't been able to keep a regular pumping routine. So needless to say, my milk supply is virtually gone. Over the past couple weeks we were 50/50 on formula/my milk, but this week we'll be 100% formula. I have mixed emotions about it. Originally I said I wanted to nurse him for a year. Then when I came back to work and realized how difficult it was to pump at work I shortened the goal to 6 months. So I'm a little shy of my goal, but not much I can do about it without making myself crazy. I will definitely miss the bonding aspect of it though. And I knew formula was expensive, but I didn't realize how fast you go through it.</li>

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">I have given serious consideration and brainstorming as to whether we could bring Daniel with us to a movie and I could just feed him to keep him quiet and then hopefully he'd fall asleep (it's dark in there after all), and no one would be bothered and we could get our movie fix. In theory it should work. So far I haven't attempted it, but I've thought about it many times. </span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;">The other struggle we have is finding good movies to rent from home (suggestions welcome)...if we had better luck with this, maybe I wouldn't have such a strong need to go to the movies. What the…???? </span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sdlqhBI2lig/TpR7JKx_fjI/AAAAAAAAAHo/2GcdkOmt5ZA/s1600/Daniel+-+cheeks.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400px" kca="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-sdlqhBI2lig/TpR7JKx_fjI/AAAAAAAAAHo/2GcdkOmt5ZA/s400/Daniel+-+cheeks.JPG" width="297px" /></a></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">When Cody got him up, his first thought was that maybe he had slept on his pacifier and there was some indentations left from it (a stretch – but we were looking for some reasoning), but after 45 minutes when the redness and lines didn’t go away, we ruled that out. Seemed to be more like some sort of rash. However, it was nowhere else on his body. Cody bathed him that morning and didn’t notice it anywhere else. Hmmm.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-family: Calibri;">He didn’t seem to have a temperature and was acting like he felt fine, but we still thought this looked strange. Called the doctor’s office and the nurse said her hunch is that it will probably go away on its own soon, but if not and if it worsens of he starts acting like he doesn’t feel well, then we should bring him in. By the time I picked him up from Kathy's, though, it was as if nothing was ever wrong. And this morning not a trace either. So weird. We're thinking maybe he was reacting to the detergents Cody and I’s shirts were washed in…he spent quite a bit of Sunday evening laying on our chests. I've also been hearing that when babies drool a lot and lay in their drool it can cause rashes. Who knows. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />

Repeat a few hours later. Then when he finally did, it was in the evening after I'd picked him up, and I sent a victory text to Cody and Kathy who were equally excited</span>. </span></span></span></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><br />

For now, cheek rashes and the poop frequencies are rocking the Lewis boat!</span>Amy (Meyer) Lewishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723499300700128505noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-343184143541268258.post-22713119681267037082011-10-06T18:04:00.000-05:002011-10-06T18:04:10.343-05:00Daniel's HandsSo Daniel has been doing this really cool thing lately that I'm really loving. It's like whenever I'm doing something with him, he places his hand on me. For example, I'll be snapping up his pj's and he'll place his hand on mine. Or I'll be fiddling with his car seat straps and he'll put his hand on mine. It's not really like it's randomly happening it either, it happens a lot and it's like he is deliberately placing his hands where he places them. I think I love it so much because it kind of feels like him reaching out and reciprocating the bond. I was telling Cody about this just last night and how much I loved it, and when I was at work this morning, before Cody took Daniel to Kathy's, he text me this picture:<br />
